Justice David Prull Retires

Prull

Justice David Prull

Justice David Prull held a deep love for his town and that love resulted in a legacy of community service that affected generations. On February 28, 1973 he was appointed as a Town Board member, serving until February 1, 1985. On March 1, 1985 he was appointed as Town Justice with strong bi-partisan support through every election until his retirement on December 31, 2025.

He believed the Town Court was the people’s court. Immediately after Covid restrictions were lifted, he was faced with the backlog resulting from the shut-down in addition to the new cases of criminal and civil matters that came in every week. He treated everyone with respect and fairness, all the while holding them accountable according to Law.

Justice Prull changed lives. While he could not give legal advice, he could counsel. There was a commitment to helping people who were facing difficult circumstances, helping them realize how mistakes could have an adverse effect on future employment goals and then guiding them toward more productive ways. His counseling of adolescents often included fatherly encouragement to ‘change their ways’ and feed their positive potential.

Judge Prull was a man of integrity, compassion, understanding and was respected inside and outside the Courtroom.

He never ceased being grateful to town residents who had faith and trust in him during his many years on the bench.

In addition to his years of service to the Town, he was also a professor emeritus at Finger Lakes Community College, teaching science and mentoring generations, encouraging pursuit in public service and leadership.

Our community has been blessed by Justice Prull’s service to the Town, his encouragement to its residents and his genuine compassion toward those who crossed his path.
