RE-ELECT as Town of Canandaigua Supervisor | |
It has been my honor to serve the residents of the Town of Canandaigua as Town Supervisor since taking office in 2022, and as Chairman of The Ontario County Board of Supervisors since being appointed in 2025. During that time I have always been reachable, approachable, understanding, and worked to truly represent you. Thank you for putting your trust in me! I am asking for your continued support as I will continue to work tirelessly to keep Canandaigua and Ontario County a safe, affordable place that we all can be proud of. As a lifelong resident of the Town of Canandaigua, this place means the world to me. I am the youngest of 7 children, all graduates of Canandaigua Academy. My wife Kellie and I are the proud parents of 4 children, 3 of which are Canandaigua graduates, and the youngest is a Freshman at the Academy. The 3 grads currently live in Provo, UT and two attend Brigham Young University. I spent almost 27 years in public education, the last 25 as a Middle School Social Studies teacher in Canandaigua. My wife is currently an Interventionist at the Elementary School and works with children who struggle with math and reading. In addition to my teaching I coached football and girls lacrosse. You could say that I gave up my coaching whistle for a seat at the political table. When I ran in 2022 I promised to focus on 3 simple goals for our community, to preserve our resources, protect our residents, and promote our community. Here is an update on how I’ve done. Preserve Our Resources I have served the last two years as co-chair of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council. During that time I worked to bring in tens of thousands of dollars in water quality projects to protect our lake. These projects protect field runoff, they improve drainage and they directly impact the quality of the water that flows into Canandaigua Lake. Our goal is to slow the flow, and filter the water. I have also supported local farmers with PDR applications, ensuring hundreds of acres remaining in farming. While our community needs to grow and housing is vital, we also need to protect our farmland. Farming is the lifeblood of our area and our farms are engrained in the fabric of our community. I am also particularly proud of how we have expanded Onanda Park by purchasing new land, increasing access to Barnes Gully hiking trails and removing development pressure from the area. Onanda is the jewel of the lake, and for some, is the only contact they have with Canandaigua Lake. I have also helped lead the charge for significant improvements to the Onanda uplands. When completed, this area will be more beautiful and more accessible with 4 season cabins, a new bathhouse and better parking access. Protect Our Residents I am an ardent supporter of law enforcement. I believe that we must provide the Sheriff with the tools he needs to protect us! As chair of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors, I will always put safety first and vote to put the best tools in the hands of our first responders. In the town, I have continued to work with the Sheriff for enhanced law enforcement on our town roads. This enhanced protection promotes traffic safety and makes sure deputies are within reach. I have also built and strengthened our relationship with Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Canandaigua Fire Department. It is so important that we keep the open dialogue that we have and work hand in hand to protect our residents. Earlier this year we made the commitment to rebuild North Road and provide sidewalks along North Road to protect children as they walk that busy road to the Academy. While expensive, it had to be done. The can had been kicked down the road long enough. In addition to these local projects, I worked with NYS for the Cooley Road and 5/20 traffic signal. This has done so much to improve the safety and traffic flow of that increasingly important roadway. Lastly, I was able to help facilitate brand new 332 lighting beautifying and illuminating that corridor. Anyone who traveled that area at night knew how dark it was. These new lights were installed with reserve funds and money we had saved over the years. Promote Our Community Canandaigua is a great place to live! Over the past 4 years I have built strong relationships with home builders and have been a strong advocate for attainable family housing. In fact, in the past year I have helped facilitate a project that will bring more attainable single family homes to Canandaigua than we have seen in years. Families are the center of our community. Home ownership is one of the biggest ways to build wealth that lasts. These projects will build a better and stronger Canandaigua in the years to come. As Chair of the Board of Supervisors I have the honor of representing Ontario County on several regional boards and commissions. This seat at the table not only promotes Ontario County, but it promotes the Town of Canandaigua to our entire region. In my role with the Canandaigua Local Development Corporation, I worked with local leaders to support the City of Canandaigua grant application which will bring $10MM of development to our area. This funding will help the entire area grow. One of my goals to promote our community was to bring greater transparency to town government. During my time as town supervisor I established CAP, a citizen led committee that engages and educates residents on the Town. This group focuses on the goals the town has and develops plans to promote those goals to the greater community. I also led the transition to a brand new WEB page making it fully compliant, vibrant and accessible. The WEB page is often the first impression of our community. It is also the first place residents go for information. I was also thrilled to be able to Introduce the My TOC app. This app allows residents to stay informed and involved, truly connecting them to their community. We also introduced a new program making our meeting agendas more accessible and easier to read. Each one of these endeavors helped to make the Town of Canandaigua one of the most open and transparent town governments around. Prior to my election in 2022, we had 3 town supervisors in a 4 year period. In fact, 3 consecutive supervisors never finished their 4 year term. For some reason my opponents used that against me. I am proud to have finally brought stability back to the office of the Canandaigua Town Supervisor. I also restored a full time supervisor who is available for the town’s residents. Last year I resigned from my teaching position in Canandaigua to ensure the town would be my singular focus. You need to know that when you call someone will be there to answer the phone. I have also spent the last 4 years building relationships in the county and beyond. Whether it is the Governor’s Office, our Federal Officials, Regional Economic Development, the DEC or the Department of Labor, I can pick up the phone, make a call and get you an answer. I am proud of what we have accomplished and can’t wait to continue what we started and bring even more great things to the Town of Canandaigua.
