Miklos "Mick" Szoczei II
ELECT as Town of Canandaigua Board Member | |
As a first-generation American with over 25 years as a proud resident of Canandaigua and more than 26 years of distinguished public service, I’m running for Town Board because this community has profoundly enriched my life. I want to give back by contributing my experience and energy to help preserve the hometown charm and prosperity that make Canandaigua so special. Recently retired as Commander of Troop E for the New York State Police, I led more than 400 sworn and civilian personnel across a 10-county region—including Canandaigua. My career in law enforcement was built on the principles of integrity, accountability, and service—values I will continue to uphold as your representative. Throughout my career, I managed complex public safety operations, led responses to many of New York’s most high-profile criminal investigations, and fostered trusted partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies—as well as with community leaders, citizens, and bi-partisan political representatives. From coordinating NYSP’s response to homicides, prison escapes, and terrorism threats to serving as a liaison with the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Secret Service, and Capitol Police, I’ve demonstrated leadership in high-pressure environments. Of all my responsibilities, I’m most proud of my commitment to victim advocacy, supporting my team, and extending a hand to those in need—hallmarks of my legacy in law enforcement. My professional service is matched by a strong commitment to the community. For over 30 years, I’ve volunteered as a varsity football coach, mentoring young people in discipline, accountability, and teamwork. I’ve also served on the United Way of Ontario County Board and participated in initiatives like Shop With A Cop, Crime Stoppers, and Project Exile—always working to support safer, stronger neighborhoods. I’m not a career politician—I’m a lifelong public servant who understands the real-world impact of local government decisions. I lead teams, manage budgets, and find practical, collaborative solutions. I believe in limited and transparent government, fiscal responsibility, and safeguarding the character and quality of life that define Canandaigua. My wife has operated a small business in town for over a decade, and both of my stepchildren are proud graduates of Canandaigua Academy. Our family is deeply rooted in service—my stepdaughter as an infectious disease pharmacist, and my stepson as a decorated U.S. Marine Corps infantry sergeant. We are invested in this community not just economically but personally and generationally. Now, I’m asking for your support to continue my service—this time on the Canandaigua Town Board. I bring unmatched experience, longstanding community ties, and a steady, results-oriented approach to leadership. I am accessible, accountable, and fully committed to helping Canandaigua thrive—today and for generations to come.
